Smoking is anactivity in which we burn hand-rolled tobacco or marijuana/cannabis and the smoke is inhaled and then exhaled back. In Indonesia, more than 61.4 million smokers smoke every day. Indonesia is the third country with the highest number of active smokers.
Why there are still many people smoking cigarettes when smoking is not good for our health? The answer is simple. In Indonesia, you can find cigarette easily, in supermarkets and even minimarkets. The price of cigarette is very cheap. One pack of cigarettes only costs $1! Well, although it is cheap, cigarettes should be banned because it is not good for our health. It can damage vital organs in the inside body, add more passive smokers because many active smokers smoking in public places and smoking also has an impact on environmental pollution.

The arguments against smoking are well known. Smoking has been shown to be dangerous to our health. Smoking can make you get heart disease, lung cancer and impotence. The initial symptoms of this disease may not show when you are young, but the impacts are when you are old. And if you smoke, you have a higher risk of dying from heart attack or stroke. Also, smoking can lead to bad skin, bad breath and bad-smelling clothes and hair. You’ll look older and ugly because of smoking.
Beside, smoking can add more passive smokers because many active smokers smoke in public places and ignore other people's health. Passive smokers are more susceptible to diseases caused by cigarette smoke. In Indonesia, more than 97 million non-smoker exposed to other people's smoke and 43 million children are exposed to cigarette smoke, including 11.4 million children aged 0-4 years (secondhand smoke). Consequently, more than 200,000 die each year from diseases associated with smoking.
Last but not least, smoking means we also damage the environment. We know that global warming is already happening now, but facts prove that cigarette smoke also have an impact on environmental pollution.
The only thing that really helps a person avoid the problems associated with smoking is staying smoke free. This is not always easy, especially if everyone around you is smoking and offering you cigarettes. In general, we think the world would be a better place without cigarettes and that is why smoking should be banned. However, the decision as to whether to smoke or not should be for each individual to make.
This is my argumentative essay for English Literature. I like the topic, so I post them here. I hope my lecturer like this essay and will give me good score. Amin. Hahaha.
